World Wide Lab: A Directors' Feast
Two Is Company - Program A
Through a series of separate yet connected 30-minute stories, the inner and outer life of a Woman is explored.
Over centuries of storytelling, a woman’s role in society has changed – yet some judgments, anticipations and expectations stay the same: courtship, marriage and family life are prizes to pursue, but can become constraining when achieved.
From an immigrant story where an arranged marriage may be a passport to freedom, to the aftermath of a wedding where a ‘celebration of two’ is drowned out by the many guests, to a wife finding solace after facing a loss – these pieces will explore the rites and rituals involved when people come together, and things fall apart.

Alone in the Crowd - Program B
A theatrical study of community and the individual’s place within it.
Two newly-devised projects will look at how small moments create the tapestry of our lives, giving us a place and a purpose within the communities that surround us.
Each day, we spill into the crowd with our daily commutes and moment-by-moment communications, only to return to moments of silence and individuality by day’s end.
Are the moments we are alone necessarily defined by loneliness?
How do the people we encounter influence us as individuals?
In what ways are we all shaped by the noises and rhythms of our surrounding world?

WorldWideLab is a truly international collective, with members who are creating dynamic, diverse and engaging work in every corner of the globe.
First coming together as members of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab in the Summer of 2010, we desired to continue collaborating with each other in a way that would draw on the best elements of our Lab experience.
While the role of Director can often be insular, we were inspired by the opportunity to share our techniques, our ideas, our stories – all of which are deeply rooted in the places we come from and the experiences we’ve had.
Our geographic and cultural diversity serves as our inspiration for WorldWideLab: A Directors Festival.
The work we present will be possible through an openness to learn from, and share with, our collaborators.
Through theatre, borders can become inconsequential.
